About Us
The Team
 | Diem (Project Director /Host) Age: 22 yrs old Background: Project Officer for The Buoyancy Foundation
Reason(s) for being involved in the radio program: Call it a 'gut feeling' if you will but I knew that this program had the possibility of being something amazing. I truly believe in the objectives underlying the initiative and I feel fortunate in having the opportunity to constantly meet and work with so many interesting women. It's a project that undeniably challenges the skills of everyone involved while also simply being a lot of fun...As evident by many of our recordings!

 | Helen (Host) Age: 19 yrs old Background: Commerce/Media & Communications student
Reason (s) for being involved in the radio program: I was drawn to the project purely through my love of radio, and it was only convenient at the time that I was also young, Vietnamese and female. As time went by though, I began to truly appreciate this aspect of my identity, and I have been fortunate to have been able to share my experiences along the way. Having the programme grow and seeing it gather momentum has simultaneously been the most rewarding and challenging experience of all, because what started out as just an inspirational idea quickly became a possibility and then a reality, but of course, not without a lot of enthusiasm, dedication and hard work from the crew.

 | Trinh (Technical Producer/Editor) Age: 21 yrs old Background: Medical Student
Reason (s) for being involved in the radio program: I was born in Australia in 1984 after my parents migrated here almost twenty-five years ago as refugees from Vietnam.
I became involved with The Voicebox because I feel that there isn’t enough recognition of the diversity and achievements of young Vietnamese women and as a result, there are very limited role models for Vietnamese girls growing up. There has certainly been recognition of the academic achievements of Vietnamese girls, but I hope that this can be extended across all fields, so that girls can not only dream of one day becoming actresses, musicians, artists, fashion designers and athletes, but also have the belief that it can be done.
I hope that through the Voicebox, by increasing awareness of the achievements of young Vietnamese women, and through initiatives such as our School’s Project, we are able to contribute to an environment where girls feel confident enough to challenge some of those boundaries set for us by society, tradition, our parents, and most importantly ourselves. |
 | Trang (Technical Producer/Graphic Designer) Age: 23 yrs old Background: Multimedia
Reason (s) for being involved in the radio program: It's a lot of fun and it's incredibly liberating being part of an all female team producing your own media. We get to talk about things that maybe other people wouldn't even consider touching like- "The myths of menstruation," and, "Forgiveness." We use our own experiences and stories to highlight and give a context to some of the issues we are discussing

 | Suong (Host) Age: 23 yrs old Background: Medical Graduate
Reason (s) for being involved in the radio program: Like any other group of people, young Vietnamese women encompass a wide spectrum of traits, abilities and histories. The radio program was a way for us to create a positive sense of relatedness between the wider community and young Vietnamese women by being honest in discussing our past, present and future. It is also a launching pad for us to engage with other young Vietnamese women and share the experience of being involved in a radio program through our community projects. For me, the joy of it lies in the challenge.
|
 | Hoa (Host) Age: 33 yrs old Background: Writer
Reason (s) for being involved in the radio program: I was really happy to be approached to be on the Voicebox team- a chance to get to work with some funky young Vietnamese women and to get our views heard out there. It's rare that Vietnamese women get to have this outlet and opportunity and the team makes the most of it- promoting Vietnamese-Australia and current affairs in general. So tune in! |
